It may sound like something your mother told you when she wanted you to clean your room, but cleaning your physical environment can help you take steps toward creating the other changes you want in your life. Experts from feng shui consultants to money guru, Suze Orman, advocate getting rid of clutter. Look around your space, does it support and nurture you or do you spend hours looking for the things you need. Does your space block your progress at every turn?
By cleaning and creating space, you make room for what you want to attract. Remember, nature abhors a vacuum. So if you are feeling stuck and tired report clean out something (anything!). It can give you a boost and even produces change in unexpected ways.
Strategies for cleaning out your space:
- Spend half an hour each day for a week clearing out junk you have built up.
- Start small. Tackle a drawer or a pile of papers. Once you get started, you may be surprised at your motivation to continue.
- Tackle all areas of your life: your workspace, and all of your personal spaces.
- Ask yourself whether you have used each item within the past 6 months. If it is not a seasonal item, it should go.
- If you can’t decide create a holding area, put things in the area and if you don’t go to the area in 6 months, you can safely give the stuff away.
- If you cannot do this alone, get a friend to help or hire a professional.
